25C Federal Tax Credit Extension For Energy Efficient HVAC

On December 18, 2015 the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate approved extension of 25C federal tax credits through December 31, 2016 and retroactive for 2015. As part of the lifetime tax credit, you may be eligible if you have not filed before. For qualified heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, water heating equipment or other energy-related improvements made to your property, you may be eligible to claim 25C tax credits equal to 10 percent of the installed costs (up to $500 maximum*). For qualified geothermal improvements, homeowners may be able to claim onetime HR 1424 tax credits equal to 30% of the total installed costs.

Subject to IRS regulations, tax credits apply as a direct reduction of taxes owed. The IRS has directed taxpayers to use Form 5695 to calculate and file for their residential energy credits. Customers should consult with a tax professional to fully understand how the tax credits may apply to you, what you can do to obtain one and for advice on and/or assistance with tax preparation.

As your local Trane Comfort Specialist, Norris Mechanical, LLC can help you choose the most efficient systems plus guide you to apply for any available tax incentives. Contact us today for a FREE consultation!

*Maximum 25C tax credit amount – is $500 and is available for respective products in the following amounts: $300 maximum for a qualifying air conditioning system, heat pump or packaged system, $150 maximum for a qualifying furnace, and $50 maximum for a qualifying product with an advanced circulating fan. The tax credit is effective for all qualified systems installed from 1/1/2012 through 12/31/2016, and is only valid to tax payers who own their home and use it as their principal residence.

SIZING SYSTEMS

THE WRONG SYSTEM SIZE COULD COST YOU

As your Trane Comfort Specialist, Norris Mechanical is certified to install the right Trane matched system size for your home, depending on a number of factors.

A system that is too large will cool or heat your house quickly, but you still may not feel comfortable. That’s because it will satisfy the temperature setting on your thermostat before it can adequately remove sufficient moisture from the air—which is what makes you feel so sticky and uncomfortable in summer. What’s more, the stress of short cycling (too many starts and stops) will shorten the life of your equipment and increase your heating and air conditioning bills.

A system that is too small just cannot get the job done. The air conditioner will run constantly in the summer and the furnace will do the same in winter, which may overtax your system and increase your energy consumption.

CONSULT NORRIS MECHANICAL, YOUR LOCAL TRANE COMFORT SPECIALIST

In most homes across the country, systems are in fact too large. And an oversized system not only makes it more difficult to control your comfort levels, it costs you money, because you’re essentially paying to heat or cool space that isn’t even there. That’s why a properly completed load calculation is so important. As your independent Trane dealer, Norris Mechanical can determine the correct system type and size for your home by doing a room-by-room load calculation. This heat loss/heat gain analysis is the best indicator of the correct system size and takes into consideration such critical factors as:

• Climate
• Number of windows and type of window treatments
• Insulation and ductwork
• Building materials and roof construction
• Skylights and fireplaces
• Ceiling heights
• The number of people in your home

Achieving APPLIED Efficiency That Matches RATED Efficiency

Many of the Trane high-efficiency products Norris Mechanical installs meet the ENERGY STAR guidelines for energy efficiency. An HVAC unit may be rated as a 20 SEER device in the box, but when the unit is installed in a home, what the system actually delivers in terms of efficiency may be different due to certain variables in the home. Efficiency can go down due to factors such as improper air flow, mismatched coils and leaking ducts. It’s important to make sure your HVAC system is installed properly so you are getting the most efficiency possible from your system. As your local Trane Comfort Specialist, Norris Mechanical can help you make sure you get the most from your system.

RATED EFFICIENCY relates to HVAC systems that are rated in laboratory conditions assuming the refrigerant charge and system airflow is 100 percent accurate.

APPLIED EFFICIENCY is what the system actually delivers once it’s charged and installed.

Quick facts on system efficiencies:

• 70 percent of HVAC systems do not have the correct air flow, which impacts energy efficiency (according to the Environmental Protection Agency).

• Almost 74 percent of HVAC systems have an improper amount of refrigerant, which can impact performance by up to 15 percent. This can result in higher energy costs, reduced reliability and faster wear and tear because systems do not operate at maximum efficiency.

Norris Mechanical offers Trane’s technology that is designed to achieve maximum efficiency, reliability and comfort, delivering the efficiency its ratings promise and customers expect. Trane has designed the Trane ComfortLink™ Communicating System that harnesses the power of digital communication to go far beyond heating and cooling to ensure your system is working as efficiently as possible. This special technology is built into specific Trane products, allowing them to “communicate” with each other. The interface enables all communicating components in the air conditioning and heating system to be automatically and properly charged, configured and calibrated. The system is designed to run its own self-diagnostics to ensure the proper airflow for heating and cooling modes, as well as the correct heat source configuration, blower timings and humidity control.

There are plenty of things you can do to make a lasting difference when it comes to home energy management, but unfortunately, it’s easy to end up buying a heating, ventilation and air conditioning system that is too large (or too small) for your home, which means you could be paying to heat and cool space that isn’t even there. Heating and cooling your home can often be complex and confusing. With all the acronyms, terminology and choices, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed when trying to find the system that best fits your home’s needs.

As your local Trane Comfort Specialist, Norris Mechanical believes that “greening” your home shouldn’t be a complicated process. We welcome the opportunity to demystify the process of making your home more energy efficient all year long. Contact Norris Mechanical today for a free consultation and estimate to make sure your home heating, ventilation and air conditioning system’s applied efficiency matches the factory rated efficiency for the ultimate in both comfort and savings.

Automation

How An Automated HVAC & Security System Can Modernize Your Home

Learn how to modernize your home with an automated HVAC system.

Programmable thermostats have been around for a while – they allow homeowners to program a heating and cooling schedule that corresponds to when they’re typically in and out of the house. But what if plans change?

Used in conjunction with a ComfortLink™ or ComfortLink™ II, the Nexia™ Home Intelligence allows you to control your thermostat remotely from a smartphone, tablet or PC. If you’re heading home from work early, simply turn on the furnace or air conditioner using your preferred device and come home to comfort. Rather than estimating your family’s comings and goings, the ComfortLink™ II allows you to precisely manage when your HVAC system is running, saving you money on your energy bill.

Pair your automated HVAC and home security systems for a truly modernized home.

In addition to enabling remote HVAC control, the Nexia™ Home Intelligence system can also be paired with a Schlage® Home Keypad Deadbolt and Home Dimmer Module for the following security and comfort conveniences:

•    Control temperature settings and manage energy use
•    Allow entry to your home through the Schlage® Home Keypad even when you’re not there
•    Assign up to 19 private four-digit codes for family members
•    Receive instant texts and email alerts when codes are used
•    Set recurring codes for housekeepers or frequent guests
•    Add, delete or change user codes remotely
•    Confirm the status of your wireless lock from anywhere
•    Program lights to turn on/off at different times of the day
•    Schedule your lights to turn on when lock code is entered

American Women Vote TRANE as BEST HVAC BRAND for the Home

Brand receives two consecutive Women’s Choice Award® Seal of Recommendation endorsements

In back-to-back years, WomenCertified® has awarded Trane, a leading global provider of indoor comfort systems and solutions and a brand of Ingersoll Rand (NYSE: IR), with the 2013 Women’s Choice Award® in the Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Systems Category. This award designation is based on a national survey among more than 5,000 women who were asked to select the brands they would most highly recommend to others, and Trane came out on top.

“We’re honored and pleased to be receiving the Women’s Choice Award for the second year in a row,” said Gary Michel, president, Residential Solutions, Ingersoll Rand. “As a leading manufacturer of indoor comfort solutions, everyone at Trane is committed to innovation, reliability and excellence for all of our customers.”

The Women’s Choice Award has set the standard for helping women make smarter choices by collectively identifying the brands most recommended and trusted by women and those that deliver a customer experience worthy of her recommendation.

• 92 percent of Americans will seek out the recommendation of others before making a major decision (Nielsen Research 2012)

• 9 out of 10 women would ‘definitely’ trust a brand more if it carried the Women’s Choice Award (MedeliaMonitor 2013)

According to Delia Passi, WomenCertified®, Inc. founder and author of Winning the Toughest Customer: The Essential Guide to Selling to Women, the Women’s Choice Award honors brands that have demonstrated exceptional service in meeting the needs of women and that receive an extraordinary recommendation rating by women.

“Recognizing Trane as the top air conditioning and heating brand helps ‘women guide other women’ to make smart choices.” Passi said.

When a company bears the Women’s Choice Award seal, it serves as an accolade in identifying brands women trust and recommend.

“We’re honored and pleased to be receiving the Women’s Choice Award for the second year in a row,” said Gary Michel, Senior Vice President and President, Residential Solutions. “As a leading manufacturer of indoor comfort solutions, everyone at Trane is committed to innovation, reliability and excellence for all of our customers.”
